ALI ASGHER (AS) WATER PROJECTS IN DODOMA, TANZANIA

FUNDED BY THE WORLD FEDERATION OF

KHOJA SHIA ITHNA ASHERI MUSLIM COMMUNITIES

AIM

The aim of Ali Asgher Water Project is to supply clean water in India and East Africa. The decision to support the Water Appeal was taken to support the fundamental belief of Muslims that clean water is the right of every single human on this earth.  A vast number of Muslims in the world today undergo daily hardships due to a lack of basic clean water. Both young and old are often forced to walk long distances with two empty buckets saddled on either shoulder in search of this valuable resource, about which Allah (SWT) in the Holy Qur’an says in Sura Al-Anbiya, verse 30: “Out of water We made all things alive.” The aim is to help ease the hardship currently facing people in the rural and poverty stricken areas in India and East Africa.

VOTE OF THANKS

We sincerely thank the World Federation Youth Network Desk who facilitated this project, and collected funds to realize its aims. Our special thanks go to the following Mu'mineen with whom we were in direct contact in carrying out 'Ali Asgher (as) Water Projects' in Dodoma, Tanzania: Brother Gulamhussein Mukhtar, Brother Zahid Khimji, Brother Muhsin Dharamsi, and members of World Federation and Africa Federation Secretariat.

PROPOSED WATER PROJECTS IN DODOMA

After some research, it was found that the following "Ali Asgher (as) Water Projects" can be carried out in Dodoma. These projects apart from being humanitarian service, will prove to be a very good catalyst in our Ahlulbayt Tabligh activities in Dodoma.

1) First proposed project was laying Pipelines and Water Tank Installation to Shia or Sunni Masajid and Madaris in suburb areas around Dodoma town.

Most Masajid in the suburb area around Dodoma do not have water pipeline connection, as they fetch water for wudhoo and washroom use from neighbourhood areas. This causes a lot of hardship and costs them a lot as they have to buy water for approx. T.Shs. 50-100/- per a bucket of 20 ltr. Sometimes the believers even miss prayers in the Masjid due to lack of water.

2) Second proposed Project was to provide drinking water facilities by installing Water Coolers in Islamic centers such as schools, madrassahs, masajid, etc. in the name of Hazrat Ali Asgher (as).

In Dodoma town, people are facing diseases like typhoid, cholera, stomach disorders, etc, due to drinking un-boiled and unsafe water. By installing Water Coolers which are fitted with water Filters can help students and teachers in Schools and believers in Masajid.

PROJECTS CARRIED OUT SO FAR

1) Water pipeline connection and installing Water Tank at 'Tanzania Ithna Ashariyah Madrassah (T.I.C.)' at Chang'ombe, Dodoma.

There are approximately 100-120 African Shias (including children) living in the poor suburb area of Chang'ombe, Dodoma. A small Shia Madrassa and center built with mud caters for the spiritual needs of this small community. Approximately 40-50 Shia children learn in this Madrassa every day and adults get together on occassions of Khushali, Wafat, Ramadhan, etc. A shia muallim is also living in the center.

Basic needs such as water and electricity was non-existent for so many years until water pipeline and Water tank was installed under 'Ali Asgher (as) project' funded by the World Federation. Thanks to 'Ali Asgher (as) Water Project', now there is no problem of water for the purpose of Daily use, Wudhoo, Washrooms, and Nyaz programmes.

2) Installing Water Tank at Masjid of Bihawana Secondary School

Bihawana Secondary School is approximately 20 kms. from Dodoma town. It is government boarding School with approximately 800 students, out of which Muslim students are not less than around 150.

In the School campus, there is a small Masjid for Muslim students and staff. Unfortunately they were facing problem of tank for storing the water for Wudhoo and other uses, as water is not flowing continuously. Alhamdulillah, under "Ali Asgher Water Project", we were able to help them with a Water storing Tank, a stand for the Tank and plumbing materials, alleviating water storing problem permanently.

3) Water Coolers four (4) pcs.

Among the four (4) water coolers purchased, three (3) have been already installed in various places, while one is still waiting for confirmation from a proposed place. The places in which the three water coolers are installed are as follows:

(a) Dar-ul-Muslimeen Primary School

It is a Shia Muslim English Medium Primary School run by the 'Registered Trustees of Dar-ul-Muslimeen', a charitable Shia organisation based in Dodoma. The School teaches both secular and religious education as per the Shia doctrine to its 320+ pupils.

The School did not have the facility for clean and safe drinking water. The school expresses its gratitude to the World Federation for installing water cooler for its students and staff, thus solving the problem of clean and cool drinking water for ever.

(b) Al-Qaem Seminary

The Seminary is a Shia Muslim Secondary School, also run by Dar-ul-Muslimeen. It has approximately 160 students in its four classes and teaches both secular and religious subjects.

(c) Lady Fatima Nursery School

It is a Nursery School run by the "Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat" of Dodoma. The School has two classes with 60 students and it was in dire need of drinking water facility. The Water Cooler under 'Ali Asgher (as) Water Project' catered for this need for ever, Alhamdulillah.

The cost incurred for the Water Coolers (4 pcs.) is as follows:

We thank WF for the help to provide water facilities in Dodoma. We hope such help will continue in the future as well. Jazakumullah Khairal Jazaa.
