It was a busy yet very exciting week for ‘Al-Qaem Seminary’ Secondary School students. They had Quiz on the topic of ‘Sacrifice of Imam Hussein (a.s.) in Karbala’ on Thursday 06/03/2008 and then debate on the concept of ‘Evolution’ on Friday 07/03/2008.

In the Quiz on Karbala a total of 100 questions were prepared and asked to the participants by the Islamic Knowledge co-ordinator Brother Hussein Karume. The questions were derived from the book “Muhanga wa Imam Hussein (as)” published by Al-Mehdi Center. Four groups participated in the quiz, one each from the four classes of Form 1 to Form 4. The winners were students from Form 4 who scored 91.5% and scooped a prize of Sh. 100,000/- , while the other participants were awarded with token prizes.

Friday was even more exciting because two groups debated on the concept of Evolution trying to outwit the other. Many scientific and interesting points on the topic were presented by the students and the one which caused laughter was a comment by the opponent of Evolution: “If men evolved from monkeys as Darwin puts, then all monkeys are black. Where do the white men evolve from?” In the end, the participants were awarded with motivational prizes.

The Principal of Al-Qaem Seminary Sheikh Muslim Bhanji commented in his concluding remarks that: “The main objective of including the misguiding theory of Evolution in the Educational Syllabus by the secularist materialists was to remove God and Religion from the life of a believer, thus students are required to strive and set strategies to remove this unscientific material from the School syllabus Insha Allah”. The main aim of both the program was to give enlightenment to the topics of Karbala and Evolution, which was achieved in a great extent, Alhamdulillah.
