BRIEF REPORT ON ASHRAE MUHARRAM PROGRAMS

In commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (as), Dar-ul-Muslimeen conducts the following programs effectively during the first ten days Ashrae Muharrams every year in Dodoma:

1) Dar-ul-Muslimeen Schools

At Dar-ul-Muslimeen Primary School, and Al-Qaem Seminary (Secondary School) where approximately 500 students study, the following programs are conducted :

• Daily speeches are conducted for about one hour during morning assembly.
• Daily short lectures are delivered between Salat Dhuhur and Asr.
• Essay writings and educational competitions are conducted and pupils gifted.

Since majority of our students are Sunni Muslims and are ignorant about Ahlulbayt and the event of Karbala, very few are naturally inclined towards Ahlulbayt (as). However, by conducting these awareness programs continuously, we can effectively assert that majority of the pupils are now not only aware of basic facts but know detailed events and are familiar with various personalities, heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Karbala.

Our students today harbor immense love for Ahlulbayt (as) which will lead them to the right path, Insha Allah. 

2) Shia Madrassah Centers

Daily Majlises are conducted at Two Shia Madrassah Centers simultaneoulsy: Tanzania Ithna Ashariyah Community (T.I.C.) Madrassah at Chang'ombe and Madrassat Bilal at Kizota. Approximately 70 - 80 mu'mineen attend at both the centers.

3) Sunni Muslim Centers

A rare and unique program are conducted at different Sunni Muslim Mosques. Special lectures on the tragedy of Karbala are narrrated by our Sheikhs.

We thank our Sunni brothers for accommodating these events in their Masjids. In the world dominated by Wahhabi propaganda, this program are normally very successful and it suggests that our Sunni brethren are receptive to such Majalis and are attracted to the message of Ahlulbayt (as). We need to spread the mission of Imam Hussein (as) to the outside world and should not be confined to Shia Centers only, as "Hussein" belongs to all.

4) Ashura Day

The day of Ashura is commemorated at Masjid Imam Mahdi (atfs) located in the compound of Dar-ul-Muslimeen. In this unique program, the Masjid witnesses a mixed audience of Sunni and Shia believers, male and female members including children.

The tragic event of Karbala touches the hearts of the congregation and causes gush of tears to flow from the eyes of even those who had never heard the Masaib of Karbala before. A'maals of Ashura followed by Marthiyas, Nawhas and Majlis are conducted by our local Mu'allims.

We hereby take this opportunity to sincerely thanks our Muallims for their services to the lovers of Imam Hussein (as). May Allah (swt) grant us life and tawfeeq to efficiently organize more of these programs such that the light which the Banu Umayya tried to tarnish for 90 years is redeemed everywhere. 

5) Other Muharram Programs:

The following are other programs that are held to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (as):

1. "Hussein Day" Seminar for full two days for Secondary School Students and colleges.
2. One day Seminar for Madrassah Teachers.
3. "Bibi Zaynab Day" program for the Muslim Ladies of  Dodoma.
4. One Day Seminar for "Tanzania Ithna Ashariyah Community" (T.I.C.) Dodoma branch, whereby all Shia families including gents, ladies and children gather to learn lessons from Karbala and pledge allegiance to Imam Mahdi (af) to sacrifice their life for the service of Islam.    
5. Printing books in kiswahili about the Sacrifice of Imam Hussein (as) and distributing all over Dodoma city.
